Good Turn for America
During the month of October (Fire Safety Month), Scouts from the Northeast Illinois Council and seven neighboring councils did a “Good Turn for America,” when they distributed door hangers promoting fire safety to homes all across Chicagoland. This community service project was sponsored by the McCormick Foundation and WOW!, a telecommunications company. Scouts
who distributed at least ten door hangers can earn a fire safety patch by completing three additional requirements by November 30, 2008:

  • practice a fire drill with their family,
  • check the batteries in the smoke detectors in their home, and
  • provide their unit leader with a note signed by a parent indicating that they have completed these requirements.

Unit leaders should turn in a list of Scouts who completed all four requirements to the Council Service Center by December 31st to receive the patches for their unit.
